WATERLOO — The Waterloo-Cedar Falls chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will have a support group meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Covenant Medical Center, wing G, fourth floor, room 10.

The topic will be mood changes in multiple sclerosis and how to treat them.

All patients, families and anyone interested in learning more about MS are encouraged to attend.

Home design series to meet

CEDAR FALLS — Interior designer Megan Hannam of Hannam Design is presenting a free “Creating Home” design series.

The next session is set for noon July 20 at the Mill Race classroom, 200 State St.

The topic is “ Hospitable Spaces.”

Upcoming topics will be “Creative Spaces” and “Transitional Spaces.”

Genealogy club features Rath

DENVER — The Denver Genealogy and History Club will feature a program on “The History of Rath Packing Co.” at 6:30 p.m. July 24 at the Denver Public Library.

Tim Kuhlmann from the Waterloo Public Library and the Cedar Valley Historical Society will be the presenter.

Rath Packing was at one time Waterloo’s largest employer, with roughly 8,500 people working in the plant during the 1940s and ‘50s. The presentation will detail the company’s history from 1891, to its end in the 1980s.

The building, which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings, stands empty today.

The program is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending are asked to call the library at 984-5140 or email to register to attend.

Humane society hosts event

WATERLOO — The community is welcome to celebrate the summer with the Cedar Bend Humane Society at a Hawaiian-themed adoption event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 at 1166 W. Airline Highway.

Dog adoption fees will be $75, and cat adoption fees will be $5.
