Soup cook-off

set for Saturday

WATERLOO — The Waterloo Eagles Club No. 764, 202 E. First St., will host the ninth annual soup cook-off from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Cost is $5 to taste as many soups as wanted.

Celebrity guest judges are Sharon Juon, Jim Miller, Gary Kroeger, Rick Coleman and Bob Kressig.

There also will be a trivia competition with the judges.

Music will be provided by the Eagles’ own John Lenius.

Senior center

to host classes

WATERLOO — The Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging will host a safety and awareness informational class at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 in the Waterloo Senior Center, 2101 Kimball Ave.

Doug Dietz from the Department of Corrections will present information about how to stay safe and techniques to protect oneself.

Mini-retreat set

Sunday at COR

WATERLOO — Dr. Bill Mulcahey, professor emeritus at Mount Mercy University, will explore the theme of the Kingdom of God in Mark’s Gospel at a winter mini-retreat sponsored by the Catholic Parishes in Waterloo from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at COR, 220 E. Fourth St.
