CEDAR FALLS - It's Christmas in July at Mix 96.
The station signed off its familiar 96.1 FM dial position Wednesday, marking the occasion by playing holiday music. The new spot at 93.5 FM started up this morning with more Christmas music after struggling through a few technical difficulties.
The first 100 listeners to catch the changeover will qualify for a chance to win $100,000.
Locally-owned KCVM-FM sought the change to boost its signal and reach.
"It's kind of been our dream come true to have a clearer slate, so we don't have to protect other stations from around Iowa," said program director Teri Lynn.
With fewer stations near that frequency, the station can now have better coverage. While Mix 96.1 had been the station's moniker for years, it will now switch to 93.5 - The Mix.
Crews were working on final technical adjustments to the station's tower in Hudson Tuesday evening.
KCVM had used the 96.1 frequency for 16 years. The station had applied to the Federal Communications Commission for the change two years ago, and that application was granted last year.
