UPDATE(6/8/2013): On Friday night, fisherman on the Des Moines River near Boone discovered a body authorities believe is that of 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard, the missing girl in the Dayton, Iowa abduction allegecly involving Michael Klunder.

WATERLOO, Iowa --- Authorities investigating the abduction of two young cousins from Evansdale said they still don’t know if convicted kidnapper Michael Klunder is behind their disappearance and deaths.

Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins disappeared in July while riding their bikes in Evansdale. Hunters found their bodies in a remote part of Bremer County in December.

Last month, authorities began investigating Klunder’s whereabouts after he abducted two girls from a Dayton bus stop. One of the girls escaped, another remains at large.

Klunder took his own life, officials said.

On Friday, Capt. Rick Abben with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office said investigators are still trying to determine if there is any connection between the cousins’ death and Klunder. He also said investigators are still pursuing other leads in the cousins case.

“While Mr. Klunder’s actions in Dayton are of interest in this case, our focus remains on all aspects of the investigation and he is not the sole focus of our attention,” Abben said in a prepared statement.

Other leads continue to be uncovered and investigators continue to follow-up on any and all information that comes in,” he added.
