It’s time to do some winter maintenance on your car. Here are 10 tips that can minimize winter car problems.
Use A/C for faster demisting. The cool air from the air conditioner will dry the air, removing the moisture.
Check windshield wipers, front and back, replace if necessary. Check for bad windshield contact and streaks on glass.
Ensure wipers are switched off if leaving car when there’s risk of freezing. Wipers can break if forced when car is turned on.
Check condition, pressure and tread depth.
Check you have a working jack and wheel brace.
Consider changing to winter or all-season tires.
Ensure lights, rear screen heater are off when starting the car.
Use starter in short five-second bursts, leaving 30 seconds between attempts can allow the battery to recover.
Check all lights work, are clean; headlights aimed correctly.
Use the correct antifreeze; ask auto shop if unsure.
