CEDAR FALLS - Merle Picht, 75, of 1108 Lakeshore Drive, Brooklyn, 52211, formerly of Cedar Falls, died May 23 in Wilcox, Ariz., while traveling back to Iowa from his winter home.
He was born June 30, 1930, in Lohrville, son of Ross and Hattie Shoop Picht. He married Harriett Smith on Dec. 26, 1952, in Cedar Falls.
Mr. Picht taught speech and theater in Waverly public schools from 1952 to 1955, and in the Cedar Falls school system from 1965 until retiring in 1993.
Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Terri (Walter) Brandt of Dysart; a son, Dan of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Andrew of Ames, Kati and Jessica, both of Dysart, Eric of Omaha and Sara of Branson, Mo.; and a brother, Melvin of Milwaukee, Wis.
Preceded in death by: a son, David; two sisters; and a brother.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's the Witness Catholic Student Center, through the auspices of St. Patrick Catholic Church, with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at St. Stephen's. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: may be directed to Habitat for Humanity or Hartman Reserve, in lieu of flowers.
