Lakisha Quintel "Kisha" Owens

WATERLOO — Lakisha Quintel “Kisha” Owens, 40, of Waterloo, was found Friday, Jan. 26, a victim of a homicide.

She was born June 1, 1977, in Waterloo, daughter of Frederick Burnside and Peggy “Cookie” Owens.

Kisha graduated from West High in 1995 and continued her education at Hawkeye Community College, receiving a medical administration and medical secretary degree. She most recently worked as a customer experience representative at Grainger and was formerly a heart monitor technician at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

Survived by: her mother, of Waterloo; her father; maternal grandmother, Nellie Owens of Waterloo; paternal grandmother, Lennie Moon of Waterloo; and nine siblings, LaTosha (Keith) Williams of Texas, DeMarrio of Fort Dodge, Shantoria of Atlanta, Markeida of Des Moines, Marteus of Waverly, DeAndre of Milwaukee, Amanda of Waterloo, Tacarra of Decorah and Nicholas of Dallas, Texas.

Preceded in death by: her maternal grandfather, Thomas Thurmond; and paternal grandfather, Robert Burnside.

Memorial services: were 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Christian Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Waterloo. Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel is assisting the family.

She accepted Christ at an early age on March 20, 1983, at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She later became a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. Kisha was very hardworking and enjoyed reading. She loved fashion and jewelry and had a special place in her heart for children. Kisha’s family and friends were very important in her life.
