WATERLOO — Katharine M. Ridenour, 97, of Papillion, Neb., formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 9, at the Cottages at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion.
She was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Arlington, daughter of Herman and Johanna (Meisgeier) Kruempel. She married Mark William Ridenour on Aug. 25, 1946, in Arlington. He died March 25, 2006.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1938. Katharine worked at a grocery store in Manchester until moving to Waterloo. There, she tended the soda fountains and lunch counter at the SunMart. When it became Adam’s Grocery she worked in the meat and bakery departments into her 70s. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she baked cookies for the Community Meals Program.
Survived by: a daughter, Vivian (Robert) Keckler of Omaha; two grandchildren, Kimberly (Thomas) Nelson of Roy, Wash., and Chad (Cindy) Keckler of Lincoln, Neb.; four great-grandchildren, Collin (Kelsey) Nelson, Kodi (Sawyer Lobdell) Nelson, Lauren Keckler and Alexis Keckler; and a great-great-grandchild, Kasen Lobdell.
Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; four brothers, Carl, Walter, Robert and Harold Kruempel; and a sister, Rosalind Engel.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour before services at the funeral home.
