Charles City Community Revitalization is set to heat things up again this winter by hosting its annual Great Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Columbus Club, 502 Clark St.

Now in its 22nd year, the Great Chili Cook-Off invites the public to sample the chili recipes of eight local “celebrity cooks,” voting for their favorite on the ballot found on the back of their ticket.

This year’s field features representatives from our “Hometown Hospitality” specialists. Carol Johnson is representing Floyd County Medical Center, Lorraine Winterink will step up to the stove for Red Cedar Lodge, Peggy Sweet will wield her spoon for the Comet Bowl, Chef Ted is competing for Hy-Vee, Dave Holschlag is representing Dave’s Restaurant (sponsored by Cambrex), Levi Klinkel is stepping out from behind the bar to compete for The Pub on the Cedar, Jerri Dight will represent Dugan’s Restaurant and Lounge, and Matt DeBoest represents Derailed.

Tickets for this year’s event are $6 and available through the Community Development Office at 401 North Main St., or at the door the day of the event.

A limited number of tickets will be sold. Admission will include samples of all eight chili recipes, crackers, drink and desserts compliments of the Comet Café high school students.

Proceeds will help support the Community Revitalization program.
