CEDAR FALLS — Two local advertising/marketing agencies have announced separate acquisitions.

Mudd Advertising announced Tuesday it has acquired Shift, a Chicago-area provider of “communication supply chain solutions.”

Shift was established in 1968 as a printing company but transitioned into the internet as that technology evolved. It provides manufacturers with agency and marketing services, distributor and dealer support and adjacent business services.

In 2016, Shift began a joint venture with Mudd, a full-service marketing and advertising company serving the automotive industry.

“We are excited to build on the success of our joint venture and bring the Shift team into Mudd Advertising,” said Jim Mudd Jr., CEO of Mudd Advertising.

In the acquisition, Mudd has become the majority shareholder of Shift. Andy Thomas is a minority shareholder and will remain as CEO of Shift, and Mary Kay Mudd-Bushonville will become the executive chairperson of Shift.

Also, Amperage Marketing & Fundraising announced it has acquired Creative Communication & Design, an advertising agency with offices in Wausau and Madison, Wis. Creative will be branded as Amperage.

“This acquisition is part of our overall Midwest growth strategy,” said Bryan Earnest, president and CEO of Amperage. “We’re pleased to welcome the Creative team to the Amperage family.”

Amperage will retain Creative’s owners. Chris Liedtke will be Amperage’s director of Wisconsin operations. Cindy Baumann will be Amperage’s creator of opportunities and will split her time between Wisconsin and Florida, where Amperage’s largest client, Memorial Healthcare System, is located.

The two companies have been collaborating on client projects for nearly two years. Creative has a staff of 10 people.

In 2014, advertising agencies ME&V (Mathis, Earnest & Vandeventer) acquired HRB (Henry, Russell & Bruce) to create Amperage Marketing & Fundraising. Amperage is a 40-person agency with offices in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, the Quad-Cities and Des Moines. Amperage largely works with health care, education, financial and nonprofit clients.

Both Mudd and Amperage are in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park.
