WATERLOO — Dozens of Sam’s Club stores nationwide closed without warning Thursday but none of them are in Eastern Iowa.
Sam’s Club confirmed the closings on it’s official Twitter page but has not released an exact number of closings or a list of stores that are closing.
“Closing clubs is never easy, and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition,” the company tweeted.
KCRG-TV9 checked on the three Sam’s Clubs in the viewing area in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Waterloo. All three stores confirmed they are open Thursday with no plans to close.
The timing of the announcement came as Sam’s Club parent company, Walmart, announced Thursday it would raise the minimum wage for its workers to $11 per hour. Walmart attributed the pay raise to the tax reform package recently signed into law.
