THOMAS NELSON has joined The Courier as a staff writer. He previously was at the Charles City Press. A graduate of Iowa State University with a BS in Journalism and a minor in political science, Nelson also spent four years active duty as a marine.
THERESA PAGEL has accepted the manager position at the UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital Community Cancer Center. She has worked at Allen Hospital since 1987 and most recently served as labor and delivery nurse manager for the NICU and birthing center.
KATELYN TURNIS has accepted the position of pediatric nurse manager at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital. She graduated from Luther College with a BA in nursing, worked as a staff nurse at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in pediatric hematology/oncology and joined UnityPoint Health-Waterloo as a resource pool and pediatrics nurse in 2009.
RACHEL LINDAMAN has accepted the emergency department manager position at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital. She has worked at Allen Hospital since 2001 with roles in the laboratory and occupational health before joining the emergency department in 2008. She has most recently served in dual roles as the trauma coordinator and ED supervisor.
NICK JANS, CLU, ChFC, CFP, financial adviser with Northwestern Mutual has earned his Chartered Life Underwriter designation from the American College of Financial Services. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with finance and real estate degrees and has been with Northwestern Mutual for seven years.

KASEY WIDDEL, SARAH MYERS, KATIE MILLER and NIKKI LUCIANO have joined Black Hawk County Abstract & Title. Widdel, manager, Settlement Services Division, previously worked as a closing manager and processor for Inspired Financial Services. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and is currently pursuing an MBA in accounting from Upper Iowa University. Myers is a settlement coordinator. A graduate of Wartburg College, Myers worked as an engineering clerk for Roskamp Champion and as a receptionist for Community Deery. Miller, a receptionist/typist, was a loan specialist with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and is working toward her degree from DMACC. Luciano is also a receptionist/typist. She has worked as a legal assistant for Sayer Law Group and as a legal support specialist/client services representative at CBE Group. She is a graduate of Hawkeye Community College.
KELLY RICHARDS, DNP, RN, Chief Nursing Officer with Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-Iowa recently earned a doctorate of nursing practice with a health systems focus from the University of Iowa.
ANGELISA BELDEN has joined the Iowa Environmental Council as communications and development director. Belden, a native of Fayette County, most recently worked in membership and marketing for WTTW, Chicago’s PBS station. She began her career as a broadcast producer with positions at KGAN and KCRG in Cedar Rapids. She then transitioned to work with non-profit professional membership organizations in Minnesota and Illinois. She has a B.A. in communications and journalism from the University of Iowa.
