WATERLOO — The Cedar Valley’s only Chipotle Mexican Grill is closing its doors this month.
A store manager for the restaurant near Crossroads Center confirmed the business would serve its final meals on July 26 after just 14 months in business.
The national fast casual food chain opened Waterloo’s first Chipotle restaurant in April 2017 after California-based Reality Income Corp. demolished a former Pizza Hut restaurant and constructed a new building to house the burrito shop and a Caribou Coffee.
Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. announced June 27 it would be shuttering up to 65 underperforming restaurants nationwide and revamping its marketing strategy.
The company, founded in 1993, operates more than 2,000 restaurants in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
