7 Habits meeting

set April 19-20

WATERLOO – 7 Habits Cedar Valley will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 pm. on April 19 and 20 at Cedar Falls Public Works, 2200 Technology Parkway, Cedar Falls. Lunch and snacks are provided both days.

Participants will gain hands-on experience, applying sound principles that yield higher productivity, improved communication, strengthened relationships, increased influence and focus on critical priorities.

7 Habits Cedar Valley is sponsored by Leader Valley, a talent development initiative of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber. The workshop is based on Dr. Stephen Covey’s best-seller, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”

Cost is $375 for one Alliance & Chamber investor/member or $1,875 for a table of six investors/members. Non-investors pay $450 for one participant or $2,700 for a table of six.

LA PORTE CITY — La Porte City Specialty Care was ranked a 5-star skilled nursing facility by the federal government’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Skilled nursing facilities are rated quarterly based on health inspections, staffing and quality measures of 11 different physical and clinical measures of residents.

La Porte City Specialty Care is a nonprofit, 46-bed skilled nursing facility offering rehabilitation services, skilled nursing care, long term care and hospice care. Its parent organization is Care Initiatives, which serves more than 3,000 Iowans through 44 skilled nursing care locations, eight assisted living locations, three senior housing apartment locations, and six hospice office locations.

Finance classes offered in April

CEDAR FALLS — During financial literacy month in April, the UNI Financial Literacy Club will provide 30 financial classes in 30 days throughout the Cedar Falls and Waterloo community.

All classes are free and open to the public. There will be a $100 drawing at each class for those who attend. The goal is to bring more financial literacy to the community without a sales pitch and without conflicts of interest from the instructors. This is all about education so the community members can make informed decisions with their hard-earned money.

to hold meeting

CEDAR FALLS – Cedar Falls Community Credit Union will hold its 60th annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. March 20.

The meeting will be held at the Cedar Falls Community Center, 528 Main St., Cedar Falls. There is no cost to attend. Members are asked to exercise their right to vote for their representatives to the board of directors, and have some time to visit with volunteers, staff and fellow members. Dinner will be provided along with door prizes. RSVP at any of their branch locations.

WATERLOO — Cedar Valley Corp., a Waterloo-based contractor, is the recent recipient of two industry awards, the 2017 Bravo Award and 2017 ROSE Award, at at the annual Associated General Contractors of Iowa convention in Des Moines.

The Bravo Award recognizes companies involved in improving the quality of life in their community and project a positive image for the construction industry through contributions of funds, labor, materials, equipment and leadership. The Bravo Award is the highest award the AGCI chapter can present to a member company. Cedar Valley has won this award every year since its inception.

Cedar Valley was named recipient of the third-place ROSE Award in the Portland Cement Paving Division for contractors in the 100,000-300,000 work hours category. This award is presented to contractors who demonstrate a cultural commitment to safety, have innovative safety programs and have achieved zero work site fatalities and work site hazard identification and control. The top safety programs also feature active employee participation, safety training, and work site hazard identification and control.

Peters honored

with award

WATERLOO — Peters Construction Corp. was honored with a Masters Award from the Master Builders of Iowa for their work on the SingleSpeed Brewing Co. Waterloo project. This statewide award, nominated in the $5 million to $10 million project category, recognizes companies and teams that have delivered outstanding results through collaboration and innovation.

The SingleSpeed project was a complete renovation and restoration of the old Wonder Bread facility in downtown Waterloo. The 35,000-square-foot facility includes a new brew house, grain handling system, walk-in coolers, indoor and outdoor bar, expo kitchen, dining, retail space and loading dock, as well as a new solar power system.
