LA CROSSE, Wis. — Wisconsin-Whitewater ended top-ranked Wartburg’s streak of 59 straight dual meet wins Saturday with a 21-20 upset at Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Candlewood Suites Duals.

Wartburg (4-1) defeated 17th-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse 25-9 and Wisconsin-Stevens Point 39-16, but lost a pair of one-point decisions and another by two points against 14th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Warhawks won the first three matches to build a 12-0 lead. Cross Cannone got Wartburg on the board with a technical fall and Logan Thomsen followed with a major decision, but the Knights’ only other wins were pins by Tyler Lutes and Lance Evans.

UNI FOURTH AT VEGAS: Northern Iowa put together a strong fourth-place finish at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite as six Panthers earned medals.

Ohio State won the team title with 155.5 points while UNI finished with 104.

Josh Alber led the Panthers with a runner-up finish at 141 pounds. He defeated sixth-ranked Chad Red of Nebraska in the semis, but fell to No. 11 Yianni Diakomihalis 8-2 in the finals.

Max Thomsen finished fourth at 149, Taylor Lujan lost to No. 1 Zahid Valencia of Arizona State 9-6 in the semifinals and finished fourth and Jacob Holschlag took fourth at 197 pounds.

In addition, Jay Schwarm was fifth at 125 and Drew Foster seventh at 184.

Iowa State’s Marcus Harrington, Kanen Storr and Jarrett Degen wrestled in Saturday’s consolation bracket, as well. Storr went on to finish eighth.

UPPER IOWA THIRD: Iowa Central won the team championship and Upper Iowa finished third at Saturday’s Buena Vista Open.

Upper Iowa had a pair of runners-up in 197-pounder Nick Baumler and 285-pounder Triston Westerlund, while Cody Nelson took third at 165.
