INDIANAPOLIS — Upper Iowa had a pair of placewinners Sunday at the Midwest Classic wrestling tournament.
Maleek Williams finished second at 126 pounds and Josh Walker was fourth at 133 to highlight the Peacocks’ performance in the 35-team event.
Both lost closely contested decisions. Carlos Jacquez of Lindenwood defeated Williams 7-5 for title, and Walker was defeated 3-1 in sudden victory in his third-place match.
Damian Penichet and Nick Baumler also made it through to Sunday, but bowed out short of the placing round. Logan Hopp opened with a technical fall in his first match, but bowed out because of injury.
Wisconsin-Parkside was the team champion with 137 points, followed by Ashland (117.5) and McKendree (112). Upper Iowa was 12th with 50 points.
