  • The second-ranked Wartburg College women’s basketball team clinched its second straight Iowa Conference regular-season championship Wednesday with a 63-54 win over Luther.

Miranda Murphy topped the 1,000-point mark for her Wartburg career as the Knights improved to 22-0 overall and 13-0 in the league. Luther fell to 15-9 and 9-4.


  • University of Northern Iowa head softball coach Ryan Jacobs announced the hiring of J.J. Reimer as an assistant coach Wednesday.

Reimer has served as head coach and hitting coach at Dusty Rogers Baseball/Softball Academy in Dubuque, as well as HitTrax and Analytics Coordinator.

A native of Dubuque, Reimer played college baseball at Ellsworth Community College and Western Illinois.

Antler scoring

  • Iowa deer hunters are invited to get their whitetail racks scored and displayed during the 43rd Eastern Iowa Sportshow March 9-11 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Divisions and categories are offered for current, historical, archery and firearms for both adults and youths.

Scoring hours are 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, March 10 and 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, March 11. Cost for scoring is $10 per rack, which includes a two-day pass to the show.

  • Solon High School senior Ethan Yahr has signed to play golf for the Hawkeye Community College team next season.

Yahr was first-team all-WaMaC Conference after averaging 39 per nine holes last season. He also competed in football and basketball.

Cross country

  • Starmont High School’s Bianca Malone has signed with the Hawkeye Community College women’s cross country program.

Malone is a three-time all-conference selection and a three-time state qualifier.
