NU High 64, Aplington-Parkersburg 43 “ At Aplington, NU High pulled away with a 20-5 third-quarter run to roll to an NICL conference win over Aplington-Parkersburg.

Johnny Hines and Eddie Diemer split NU's scoring leadership with 18 points apiece, and they each scored six points in the third.

Alec Thompson and Christian Price led the Falcons (1-7, 0-6 NICL) with 16 points apiece.

The Panthers improved to 6-1 and 4-1.

Elgin was 14-for-17 from the line, while the Pointers out-scored Columbus 19-3 from the stripe as a team.

Columbus (1-6, 1-4 WaMaC) were led by 13 points from Eric Knipp and 12 from James Humpal.

NU High 31 “ At Aplington, Senior forwards Chelsea Poppens and Nicole Hippen ran the show for the Falcons as they handled NU High at home.

Poppens filled up the box score, notching 30 points, six steals and a school-record 25 rebounds, while Hippen added a double-double of 17 points with 10 rebounds.

The Falcons improved to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the NICL East.

The Panthers, who dropped to 1-7 and 0-5, got 7 points from Maddie Backstrom.

Columbus 52, Center Point-Urbana 43 “ At Waterloo, Rachel Schaefer and Jessica Klieman played the dozens for the Columbus girls Tuesday, scoring 12 points apiece as the Sailors handled Center Point-Urbana in a WaMaC conference battle.

Schaefer added 11 rebounds to her game totals as the Sailors evened their overall record at 4-4 and climbed above .500 in the conference at 4-3.
