OMAHA, Neb. — Waterloo goalie Matej Tomek stopped all 31 shots he faced, guiding the Black Hawks to a 3-0 road win over Omaha Thursday night in United States Hockey League action.

With this victory, Waterloo (13-9-1-1, 28 points) jumped past Omaha (13-8-1-0, 27 points) for fourth place in the Western Conference.

The Black Hawks opened scoring 15 minutes, 46 seconds into the first period when Garrett Wait converted a power-play opportunity off the assists from Jackson Coats and Jack Drury.

Coats added his 10th goal of the season off an assist from Ethan Johnson and Ben Copeland with just 32 seconds remaining in the second period. Copeland tacked on a late empty netter to set the final score.

Tomek’s work in net was crucial as Omaha held a 31-25 advantage in shots on goal, and peppered Waterloo’s goaltender with 16 shots in the final stanza. Omaha goaltender Zach Driscoll finished with 22 saves.

The Black Hawks’ penalty kill held strong with Omaha failing to convert five power-play opportunities, while Waterloo finished 1-for-4 with an extra man.

Waterloo enters Friday night’s 7 p.m. contest with Lincoln inside Young Arena just six points back of division leaders Fargo and Tri-City.
