PITTSBURGH — Waterloo broke open a tight game with a four-goal third period as the Black Hawks wrapped up their preseason with a 6-2 win over Dubuque Friday at the USHL Fall Classic.
Dubuque took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game, but James Marooney drew Waterloo even at the 18:43 mark.
The Black Hawks went up 2-1 on Garrett Klee’s score 8:18 into the second period, then opened a 4-1 lead in the first 10:18 of the third period on tallies by Danny DiGrande and Bobby Trivigno.
The Fighting Saints got within 4-2 at 10:36 before Klee converted on a power play and Jax Murray connected at the 13:01 mark to complete the scoring.
Matej Tomek got the win in goal for Waterloo with 19 saves on 21 shots.
Waterloo opens its regular season Saturday at Sioux Falls.
