CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids’ 10th attempt in a shootout finally beat Waterloo goaltender Matej Tomek and lifted the RoughRiders to a 3-2 United States Hockey League victory Saturday night.

Jordan Timmons got the game-winner while Cedar Rapids goaltender Jiri Patera denied 10 straight Black Hawks to cap a stellar night in the net when he made 48 saves in regulation and overtime.

The opening period ended in a 1-1 tie. Cedar Rapids grabbed a 1-0 lead 15 minutes, 38 seconds into the game, then Waterloo answered when Bobby Trivigno scored on assists from Jack Drury and Garrett Wait with just :35 left in the period.

Trivigno put the Black Hawks up 2-1 early in the second period on a shorthanded tally assisted by Kyle Koopman. Cedar Rapids tied the game again at 2-2 at the 17:12 mark.

A scoreless third period sent the game to overtime.

Waterloo (10-6-0-1) saw its four-game winning streak, which included a 5-2 win over Cedar Rapids Thursday, come to an end.
