DUBUQUE -- Waterloo's Jackson Cates capped a big night with the only goal in the shootout as the Black Hawks came away with a 3-2 United States Hockey League win at Dubuque Wednesday.
Waterloo goaltender Matej Tomek stopped all three Dubuque attempts in the shootout.
The Black Hawks overcame a 2-0 deficit. After surrendering a shorthanded goal in the first period and a power-play tally in the second, Cates converted power-play opportunities at the 10:04 and 18:36 marks of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.
Now 9-6-0-0 and the winner of three straight games, Waterloo hosts Cedar Rapids at 7:05 p.m. today at Young Arena.
