GREEN BAY, Wis. — Jackson Cates scored on an overtime power-play to lift Waterloo to a 2-1 victory over Green Bay Friday night in United States Hockey League action.

It was the second goal of the night and 21st of the season for Cates with Ben Copeland assisting on both.

Cates’ first tally broke up a 0-0 dual 5 minutes, 23 seconds into the second period. Waterloo and goaltender Jared Moe, who had 34 saves, protected that advantage until just 1:09 remained in regulation and the Gamblers tied it.

Just 21 seconds after Green Bay’s Ryan Verrier took a tripping penalty in the overtime, Cates ended it and kept the Black Hawks atop the USHL’s Western Conference with a 24-11-3-1 record good for 52 points. Green Bay lost its fourth straight game and fell to 17-16-3-1 on the season.
