Fourth-ranked Starmont dominated ninth-ranked Iowa Valley in a Class 1A regional volleyball final Tuesday to earn a Class 1A state tournament berth, 25-19, 25-18, 25-9.
Hayley Goedken had 15 kills, Macy Mommer 13 and Madilyn Vaske 10 for the Stars (30-5). Regan Janssen finished with 44 assists and 12 digs while Goedken (25), Katie Berry (15), Mommer (11) an Vaske (11) also recorded double-digit digs.
Starmont, which has no seniors on its roster, will face Holy Trinity at 8 p.m. next Wednesday in the state tournament.
JANESVILLE 3, NEWELL-FONDA 0: Top-ranked Janesville made quick work of Newell-Fonda in a Class 1A regional final and earned a return to the state tournament.
Set scores were 25-9, 25-11, 25-14.
Janesville will begin the quest for its fourth state title in five years and third in a row Wednesday at 6 p.m. against East Mills.
NORTH TAMA 3, COON RAPIDS-BAYARD 0: North Tama joined the parade of NE Iowa teams headed to state with a 25-10, 25-18, 25-8 victory over Coon Rapids-Bayard.
The eighth-ranked Redhawks will take a 29-7 record into their state tournament opener next Wednesday against Springville.
TRIPOLI 3, KEE 0: Seventh-ranked Tripoli is headed to the state tourney after a sweep of Kee High of Lansing, 25-8, 25-16, 25-18.
Now 25-13, the Panthers face LeMars Gehlen next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
GRUNDY CENTER 3, PELLA CHRISTIAN 1: Grundy Center got a battle from Pella Christian in a Class 2A regional final before advancing to state with a 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16 triumph.
The third-ranked Spartans improved to 36-6 and will meet Sidney at 4 p.m. next Wednesday in the state tournament.
WAPSIE VALLEY 3, LAKE MILLS 1: Wapsie Valley punched its ticket to the state tournament by upsetting seventh-ranked Lake Mills 28-26, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21.
The Warriors (21-15) will tangle with top-ranked Dike-New Hartford in their state tourney opener next Wednesday at 2 p.m.
