Host Cedar Falls prevailed Thursday night with six event titles and 177 points en route to a title at the Cole Collinge Relays.

Nathan Hoy highlighted Cedar Falls’ victory with the state’s fastest recorded time of the season, 52.96, in the 400 hurdles. The Tigers also picked up wins from Gabe Penrith in the 200 (24.03), Seb Gearhart in the 400 (51.36), Same Schillinger in the 800 (1:59.21) and Andrew Sandvold in the discus (144-6). The Tigers also won the 4x400 relay in 3:25.36.

Waterloo West placed third with 82 points. The Wahawks were led by victories from Harrison Eighmey in the 100 (11.33), Carlton Todd in the long jump (22-0 1/2) and Nick Joens in the shot put (54-5).

Waverly-Shell Rock recorded wins in the 4x100 and distance medley and finished fourth with 73 points.

Girls’ track and field

LADY SPARTAN INVITE: Geneva Basye took runner-up in discus and high jump to pace a fifth-place finish by Valley Lutheran at Grundy Center’s nine-team invite.

East Marshall won with 136 points, narrowly edging Aplington-Parkersburg’s score of 130.

The Falcons placed first in seven events with Ivy Nolte (100 and 200) and Dani Johnson (discus and shot put) each winning two.

Girls’ tennis

COLUMBUS 8, APLINGTON-PARKERSBURG 1: The Sailors had no trouble with the Falcons, earning a dominating win Thursday.

Columbus was particularly dominant in singles, where all six players won in straight sets.

Boys’ tennis

COLUMBUS 8, APLINGTON-PARKERSBURG 1: Columbus earned a sweep in doubles and took five of six singles matches in straight sets.

Cole Weber was particularly dominant, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and teaming with Daniel Buchanan for a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles.

Boys’ soccer

CEDAR RAPIDS KENNEDY 2, CEDAR FALLS 1: Alex Stone scored six minutes into the first overtime, lifting Kennedy to a tight win.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a Tim Thompson goal late in the first half, before surrendering the lead early in the second on a penalty kick.

HUDSON 1, COLUMBUS 0: Sixth-ranked Columbus was held scoreless for the second straight match as No. 7 Hudson scored the game’s lone goal on a first half penalty kick.

Girls’ soccer

C.R. KENNEDY 2, CEDAR FALLS 0: A pair of first-half goals would be all the offense Kennedy would need, as the Tigers were shut out for the second time this season.

COLUMBUS 4, WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 3: Kiki Cabrera scored the game-winning goal in double overtime as Class 1A’s No. 2 Columbus overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit to Class 2A’s No. 8 Waverly-Shell Rock. Sarah Campbell led W-SR with three goals.

Golf

VAN SICKLE 4TH, SLIGER 6TH AT RICEVILLE: Ethan Van Sickle shot a 49 for the Waterloo Christian boys and Grace Sliger finished with a 64 for the girls at Riceville.

Tripoli won a four-team boys’ tournament with 193, while Clarksville won a girls’ triangular with 233. Christian didn’t record a team score at either event.
