FORT DODGE — Cedar Falls qualified for state in eight events as high school boys’ swimming teams competed in district meets around the state Saturday.
Decorah advanced in two events, and Waterloo will send one representative to next Saturday’s state meet at the Marshalltown YMCA.
Competing in the district at Fort Dodge, team champion Cedar Falls got wins from Benson Redfern in the 200 individual medley (2:00.74), Sam Reinart in the 100 backstroke (52.88), Dawson Bremner in the 100 butterfly (53.23) and the 400 freestyle relay of Reinart, Bremner, Eamonn McCullough and Dylan Moffatt (3:13.63).
Moffatt was also second in the 200 freestyle with Reinart third, Bremner finished behind Redfern in the 200 individual medley, Demir Tuken took second to Bremner in the 100 butterfly, Moffatt was second in the 500 freestyle, and the Tigers’ 200 freestyle relay of Reinart, Bremner, McCullough and Moffatt took runner-up honors.
At Linn-Mar, Decorah’s top finishes were Faldet’s victory in the 100 breaststroke (58.31), a third in the 200 medley relay with Gus Grimstad, Faldet, A.J. Morrow and Andrew Heine and Faldet’s fourth in the 100 butterfly.
After results were compiled from all the district meets, Cedar Falls’ tentative state qualifiers are the 200 medley relay (23rd), Moffatt (3rd), Reinart (10th) and McCullugh (19th) in the 200 freestyle, Redfern (14th) and Bremner (18th) in the 200 individual medley, Bremner (10th) in the 100 butterfly, Moffatt (2nd) in the 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay (16th), Reinart (8th) and Redfern (24th) in the 100 backstroke and the 400 freestyle relay (6th).
Waterloo’s Tate Hookham qualified in the 50 freestyle with the 19th-best time, while Faldet will represent Decorah as the No. 3 overall qualifier in the 100 breaststroke and the Vikings will send their 200 medley relay (18th).
