CENTER POINT — Seventh-ranked Center Point-Urbana jumped on Crestwood with four first-inning runs and held off the Cadets 6-5 in a Class 3A regional softball final Monday.
Crestwood answered the Pointers’ fast start with three runs in the second inning, but CP-U picked up a single run in the bottom of the second for a 5-3 edge. After the Cadets again got within a run in the sixth, the Pointers answered again and led 6-4 after six. Crestwood threatened in the seventh and scored once, but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Laken Lienhard had a double and a single for the Cadets (24-8) and Kaylie Henry drove in two runs. Olivia Brecht and Reagan Schutte both went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles each for Center Point-Urbana, which takes a 29-10 record into next week’s state tournament.
SIOUX CENTER 7, IOWA FALLS-ALDEN 6: Unranked Iowa Falls-Alden had third-ranked Sioux Center on the ropes in Monday’s Class 3A regional final, but couldn’t quite pull off the upset.
Sioux Center takes a 23-6 record into the state tournament next week while Iowa Falls-Alden ended the season 12-22.
