CEDAR RAPIDS — Waterloo West eighth-grade pitcher Taylor Stefancik won her varsity debut in game two as the Wahawks closed out a softball doubleheader sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington, 13-0, 16-0, Thursday night in Mississippi Valley Conference play.

Brooke Stackhouse led the offense for West (7-23) with a double in each game. Washington fell to 0-25.

IOWA CITY HIGH 9-11, WATERLOO EAST 5-8: East and City High exchanged a pair of late rallies with the Little Hawks coming up on the winning end twice.

East jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game one of the Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader as Josie Stocks drove in three runs on two hits and Bri Netty had three hits and two RBIs, before City High rallied with nine runs in the final three innings.

The Trojans (7-23) had a chance to win game two, but City High gunned down the potential winning run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Little Hawks then pulled in front with three runs in the top of the ninth.

Bri Netty went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead East in game two. Kenidi Adams drove in two runs, while Brooke Meighan, Jayden Bentley and Sydney Magnuson each had two hits.

Hudson sweeps Columbus

Hudson won the completion of a postponed game that began in Waterloo and added a second victory over Columbus to earn a doubleheader sweep, 13-1, 7-0, Thursday night in North Iowa Cedar League baseball action.

Jacob Murray earned the game one win for Hudson and doubled in game two. CJ Christopher was game two’s winning pitcher for the Pirates with a complete-game shutout.

East, Cedar falls postponed

Standing water on the diamond at Robinson-Dresser Park forced Waterloo East’s metro baseball game at Cedar Falls to once again become postponed. No make-up date has been set.
