WATERLOO — Waterloo Columbus finally got its girls’ tennis season started Tuesday, and the Sailors made a victorious debut with a 7-2 decision over Boone at the Byrnes Park Tennis Center.

Columbus got singles wins from Anna Sinnott, Bella Fain, Elysse Trost, Grace Sullivan and Margaret Harn and then took took of the three doubles matchups.

Boys’ tennis

BOONE 7, COLUMBUS 2: Daniel Buchanan won at No. 1 singles and teamed with Cole Weber for another victory at No. 1 doubles, but those were Columbus’ only wins in a loss to Boone.

CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON 6, CEDAR FALLS 3: Cedar Rapids Washington showed off the firepower at the top of its lineup in a Mississippi Valley Conference win over Cedar Falls.

The Warriors won the top two doubles matches and the top four singles bouts. Cedar Falls got singles wins from freshmen Pranav Chandra and Vikash Ayyappan, who also teamed up for a doubles victory.

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 8, WEST 1: Waverly-Shell Rock rolled to a dual tennis win over Waterloo West Tuesday.

Zach Heyerhoff was the lone Wahawk winner, taking a 7-5, 6-4 singles win.

Girls’ golf

CEDAR FALLS WINS: Amara Lytle captured medalist honors to lead Cedar Falls to a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular win Tuesday.

The Tigers finished at 188 and won by 13 strokes. Lytle carded a 44, Megan Sawyer added a 47, Tegan Schultz posted a 48, and Riley Marten shot 49 for Cedar Falls.

WEST THIRD: Dubuque Senior won Tuesday’s Mississippi Valley Conference triangular at The Meadows Golf Course in Dubuque.

Waterloo West took third, led by Hayleigh Zikuda’s round of 55.

Girls’ soccer

COLUMBUS 2, HUDSON-DNH 0: Fifth-ranked Columbus got its season off to a winning start with a 2-0 win over Hudson-Dike-New Hartford Tuesday.

The Sailors broke on top in the 28th minute off a set play when Maddie Burr attempted a corner kick that found its way into the net. With four minutes left until halftime, Krista Blair converted an assist from Lucia Hasselbrook for a 2-0 lead.

Sydney Schultz made nine saves and got the shutout in goal for Columbus.

Boys’ soccer

DUBUQUE SENIOR 1, EAST 0: Waterloo East kept the Senior attack under wraps, but the Trojans couldn’t get into the scoring column in a 1-0 Mississippi Valley Conference setback.

Ashton Lindquist made seven saves in goal for East (0-2).
