WATERLOO — Waterloo Columbus edged Grundy Center by two, and Aplington-Parkersburg by one point to capture the North Iowa Cedar League Invitational Tuesday at the Brynes Park Tennis Center.

The Sailors got championship performances from Cole Weber at No. 2, Jon Dobson at No. 3 and Dylan Mack at No. 5 during singles play, while Weber and Daniel Buchanan won at No. 1 doubles and Dobson and Joe Haag won at No. 2 doubles.

Rhett Peters of Union was the winner at No. 1 singles, beat Sage Klar of Grundy Center. Aplington-Parkersburg’s Alec Oberhauser and Riley Oberhauser won at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, with Riley Oberhauser teamming with Grant Truax to win at No. 3 doubles.

Waterloo outlasts Xavier

WATERLOO — Izzy Guyer made 15 saves and then stopped five of nine penalty kicks as Waterloo Girls’ Soccer scored a 1-0 (PK, 5-4) victory over 10th-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier (Class 2A) Tuesday at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.

Waterloo’s ninth shooter, Minela Kajtezovic, fired her shot into the roof of the net to help Waterloo snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 7-5 overall.

Waterloo is at Cedar Rapids Prairie Thursday.
