WAVERLY — Northeast Iowa made a strong showing Tuesday at the Wartburg College Invitational indoor high school track and field meet that drew teams from across the state.
Waverly-Shell Rock had a number of top six finishes in the girls’ competition, led by Grace Hoins’ runner-up race in the 400 (1:05.89). Haley Beckert added a third in the 55 hurdles (9.37), a fourth in the 400 (1:07.11) and tied for fifth in the high jump (4-9), and Karlie Wosepka was fifth in the hurdles (9.40).
West Central’s Kristin Culp tied for third in the 55 hurdles (9.37), while Grace Dupuy was fifth in the shot put (34-4) and Jenna Merical fifth in 400 (1:07.99).
Janesville’s 4x200 relay of Lilly Nielsen, Lily Liekweg, Victoria Hazard and Briana Baker-Bruce finished third (1:54.69).
Denver placed fifth in the 4x400 relay with Alana Barrett, Julie Vervaecke, Alice Vervaecke and Alison Waterman (4:32.54) and was sixth in the 4x800 with Alice Vervaecke, Waterman, Barrett and Caroline Stokes (11:10.94).
Shakieye Taylor of Waterloo West was fifth in 55-meter dash (7.88).
In the boys’ meet, Hudson led the Northeast Iowa schools with four top three finishes.
Dawson Ellingson was second in the shot put (49-6), Carson Wright was third in the 800 (2:04.50), Wyatt Kelly was third in the 1,600 (4:53.26), and the 4x400 relay of Wright, Kelly, Holden Caloud and Alan Jackson took third (3:42.24)
