WATERLOO — Waterloo bolted to a 3-0 first-period lead and held off Quad City 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Young Arena in Midwest High School Hockey League action.

It was the first victory for the Warriors (14-7-1-2) in four meetings with the Blues.

Kole Latusick got it started for Waterloo with an unassisted goal just 1 minute, 54 seconds into the game. Back-to-back goals from Nick Samuelson 1:59 apart midway through the period hiked the lead to 3-0.

Quad City picked up a power-play tally to make it 3-1 after the first, then each team connected once in the second with Coulter Dupree’s unassisted goal giving Waterloo a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.

The Blues (8-11-1-3) pulled within 4-3 with 4:43 remaining, but couldn’t get the equalizer.
