MARSHALLTOWN -- Chris Cooksley and Jacob Hesner posted top 10 scores to lead East Buchanan into the Class 1A team lead Friday at the boys' state golf tournament at American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Cooksley shot a 72 and stands in fourth place, while Hesner was two strokes back at 74 and tied for sixth. Dylan Kress added a 79 for the Bucs, who lead Algona Garrigan by 10 strokes in the team standings.

Noah Haack of Hudson also got off to a strong start with a 73 that put him in fifth place and Grundy Center got 80s from both Jesper Holke-Farnam and Jake Bangasser as the Spartans settled into fourth place. Kaleb Hagge of Winfield-Mount Union is the individual leader at 68.

In Class 2A at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Carter Stochl of New Hampton and Dylan Ellis of Aplington-Parkersburg carded 72s and are tied for fourth. Cade Alberts of A-P shot a 74 and shares 16th place. New Hampton is seventh in the team standings at 317 while Sheldon, led by Tyler Merley's first-day best round of 68, posted a 294 for the lead.

In the Class 3A tournament at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore, Central DeWitt holds a four-shot lead in the team competition while Tommy Doyle of Gilbert's 68 tops the individual leaderboard.

The tournaments conclude Saturday.
