MARSHALLTOWN — Waterloo East saw an early lead slip away in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans responded with a game-winning touchdown drive to defeat Marshalltown 18-15 in a non-district football matchup Friday.

It was the second win in three games for East, which jumped out to a 12-0 first-quarter lead behind a 10-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Cronan to Damon Johnson and a seven-yard run by Tyrell Gordon.

The Bobcats (1-2) pulled within 12-7 on a second-quarter score, then took a 15-12 lead just four seconds into the fourth.

East responded with Gordon’s second TD run of the night with 6 minutes, 31 seconds remaining, and the Trojans’ defense made it stand up.

Cronan, making his first start in place of injured East quarterback Dylan Reyes, completed 10 of 22 passes for 173 yards with no interceptions. Damon Johnson hauled in five of those completions and turned them into 136 yards and a TD, while Gordon led the rushing game with 70 yards on 15 carries.
