PARKERSBURG — Playoff-bound Aplington-Parkersburg (8-1, 6-1) won the District 3 high school football championship Friday — its first since 2011 — with a decisive 59-12 victory over Saydel.

Braden Good caught three touchdown passes — two of them from Carter Cuvelier, who went five for seven passing for 158 yards. Sam Nolte ran for 134 yards on 11 carries and Sam Thorn added 109 rushing yards. Both scored a pair of TDs.

DIKE-NEW HARTFORD 42, E. MARSHALL 20: Dike-New Hartford controlled the second half and defeated East Marshall in a battle for the second playoff spot in District 3.

The Wolverines (6-3, 5-2) scored three second-half touchdowns while allowing just one to break open a close game.

Cade Fuller ran for three touchdowns and caught a scoring pass from Drew Sonnenberg, who also connected with Ryan Moore for a TD and ran 34 yards for a score.

Cade Bennett led a powerful Dike-New Hartford ground game that piled up 300 yards with 122 yards on 20 carries.

CRESTWOOD 26, FOREST CITY 20: Crestwood’s Frank Hrdlick picked up a Forest City fumble and returned it 75 yards as Crestwood improved to 5-2 in the district (5-4 overall).

The winless Indians outgained the Cadets 262-228, but turned the ball over three times.

CASCADE 28, UNION 21: Haris Hoffman’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Logan Otting with 28.1 seconds left lifted the second-ranked and unbeaten Cougars past No. 7 Union in a matchup of playoff qualifiers.

Union (6-3) rallied from a 20-7 hole with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. Wide receiver Kody Alpers’ 45-yard run out of the wildcat formation on a fourth-and-one play, followed by Benjamin Dvorak’s extra point put the Knights on top, 21-20, with 3:37 left.

NEW HAMPTON 14, CLEAR LAKE 7: New Hampton won a defensive standoff at fourth-ranked Clear Lake to capture the District 2 championship.

New Hampton held the Lions (7-2, 6-1) to 67 yards rushing. Josh Fenske was in on 20 tackles for the Chickasaws (7-2, 6-1).

HUDSON 31, BELLE PLAINE 14: Christian Seres scored a pair of late touchdowns to cap a 17-point fourth quarter that lifted Hudson to the District 5 championship and its first undefeated regular season since 1994.

Wes Geisler broke a 14-14 tie early in the fourth with a 37-yard field goal, then Seres scored from 29 yards away. A few minutes later, on fourth-and-one on the Plainsmen 43, Seres took it the distance to seal the victory.

Seres ended the night with 31 rushes for 218 yards and four touchdowns as the Pirates outrushed Belle Plaine (6-3, 5-2) 330-40.

ST. ANSGAR 82, ROCKFORD 7: Dayton Smith had a big night as ninth-ranked and playoff-bound St. Ansgar ran over Rockford to wrap up the regular season.

The Saints (9-0, 7-0) collected 610 total yards on the night with 602 coming from the ground-game. Smith finished with 315 yards and seven touchdowns on 22 carries while Sam Juenger added 104 yards and two TDs on just seven carries.

GRUNDY CENTER 41, WEST FORK 6: Grundy Center finished its season by routing West Fork.

Grundy Center (5-4, 4-3) rolled to a 28-6 halftime lead and shut out West Fork (3-6, 2-5) in the second half. The Spartans used a variety of rushers to amass 320 yards.

EAST BUCHANAN 62, STARMONT 0: East Buchanan tuned up for the postseason with a rout of winless Starmont.

Max McGraw (104 yards) and Braydon Nunemaker (103) led a powerful ground attack by the 10th-ranked Buccaneers (8-1, 6-1). Both scored three touchdowns.

GLADBROOK-REINBECK 28, COLFAX-MINGO 7: Two-time defending state champion Gladbrook-Reinbeck shut down Colfax-Mingo on the way to the playoffs.

The Rebels take an 8-1 overall mark (6-1) district into Friday’s postseason opener. Colfax-Mingo finished 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the district.

SOUTH WINNESHIEK 36, BELMOND-KLEMME 0: South Winneshiek charged into the postseason by winning a showdown against Belmond-Klemme for the second playoff spot in District 2.

Rodney Schwartzhoff ran 34 times for 228 yards to lead the Warriors (6-3, 6-1), who also intercepted three passes. Belmond-Klemme (7-2, 5-2) also made the playoffs.

Class 3A

DECORAH 52, INDEPENDENCE 12: Decorah took care of business on the field and was then rewarded with an at-large playoff bid.

Jake Muhlbauer turned 11 carries into 257 rushing yards and touchdowns of 9, 95, 78 and 44 yards. He also caught a TD pass from Brannon Hogan.

Decorah moves on with a 7-2 overall record (5-2 district) while Independence finished 4-6 and 3-4.

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 31, CHARLES CITY 7: Seventh-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock wrapped up an 8-1 regular season (6-1 in District 3) and headed to the playoffs with a solid win.

The Go-Hawks forced four turnovers while Luke Velky passed for 167 yards. Jack Seward caught five throws for 84 yards.

TURKEY VALLEY 42, JANESVILLE 27: Turkey Valley slowed down Janesville’s potent offense, but the Wildcats’4-2 district mark was good for a playoff bid as both teams finished 6-3 overall.

Ethan Leibold completed 12 of 20 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns for Turkey Valley, which finished 3-3 in the district.

RICEVILLE 44, DUNKERTON 28: Playoff-bound Riceville (8-1) held off Dunkerton in a non-district matchup.

Dalton Burch passed for 117 yards and Kaleb Westendorf ran for 101 for Dunkerton (5-4).
