CEDAR FALLS — Long-time coach and associate principal Troy Becker has been named the new Activities Director at Cedar Falls High School.
Becker, who has been with the school district since 1994, will replaced Gary Koenen who is retiring at the end of the school year.
“I’m very excited to have been chosen for this position as it has been my biggest professional goal,” Becker said. “Cedar Falls is a special place and I look forward to doing anything I can to help all of our students find success and involvement in our many programs.”
Becker has served as associate principal and assistant activities director at Cedar Falls since 2007. Additionally, Becker has been the head men’s cross country coach and women’s track and field coach.
Becker led the men’s cross country program to two state championships ( 2004 and 2005) and six top-three finishes at the state meet and six district championships. Additionally, the Tigers were state cross country runner-ups in 1995, 1996, 2011 and 2015. In 2016, he was one of eight finalists in the country for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association coach of the year.
Koenen announced his retirement last month after serving as director of athletics at Cedar Falls for 25 years where the Tigers won 27 state championships in 11 different sports under his tenure.
