CEDAR RAPIDS — Behind a pair of top-10 finishes, the Cedar Falls girls cross country team raced to a third-place finish at the Mississippi Valley Conference Divisional race Thursday.

Mackenzie Michael took sixth while Anna Hertz was eighth for the Tigers, who finished with a score of 64. Dubuque Senior was the overall champion with 48 points, nine points better than Hempstead.

Michael ran a ran a 19:07.67 and Hertz a 19:21.60.

Caroline Ross (12th, 19:37.64) and Meg Schmitz (18th, 19:56.34) also finished in the top 20 for Cedar Falls, while Paige Kvale (24th, 20:04.82) rounded out the scoring.

Cedar Rapids Prairie freshman Laurdyn Meyer took first in 18:44.63.

In the boys race, Cedar Falls junior Brandon Conrad took third to pace the Tigers, who finished fourth with a score of 117. Conrad ran the course in 16:00.98.

Caleb Burjes also nabbed a top-15 finish for Cedar Falls, placing 15th with a time of 16:20.98.

Cedar Rapids Prairie took first with 41 points, with Hempstead grabbing the runner-up position with 58. Max Locher of Washington earned medalist honors in 15:48.41.
