WATERLOO — Waterloo Christian didn’t have enough firepower to keep up with Colo-Nesco Tuesday as the Royals ran away with girls’ and boys’ Iowa Star Conference victories.

The Regents held a brief lead over the 14th-ranked Colo-Nesco girls before the Royals broke loose on the way to a 78-17 win. Colo-Nesco then completed the sweep with a 68-13 win in the boys’ contest.

Waterloo Christian scored first and trailed just 9-4 with three minutes left in the first quarter of the girls’ game. Mallory Smith led the Regents with seven points on the night.

In the boys’ game, Colo-Nesco’s zone defense frustrated Waterloo Christian from the outset as the Royals jumped in front 22-1 and never slowed down.

POSTPONEMENTS: Most prep events involving metro high schools scheduled for Tuesday night were postponed in the wake of Monday’s ice storm.

The Waverly-Shell Rock at Waterloo West girls’ basketball game has been rescheduled for Feb. 11. The West at Waverly-Shell Rock boys’ game was also postponed with no immediate makeup date available.

Waterloo Columbus’ girls-boys basketball doubleheader at Denver was moved to today. The Tripoli at Valley Lutheran girls’ game and Waterloo Swim’s trip to Cedar Rapids Jefferson were also called off. Make-up dates have yet to be determined.

SATURDAY REPLAY: Waterloo East’s girls’ bowling team won the championship at the Clinton Invitational Saturday.

Led by Leah Frost’s individual title, the Trojans piled up 2,615 pins to 2,367 for runner-up Pleasant Valley.

Frost tossed games of 225 and 245 for a 470 series. Cedar Falls’ Madison Standing finished fifth individually at 414. Other individual series for East were Alissa Claasen’s 393, Abbie Williams’ 367, Alysha Edler’s 326, Madison Riley’s 292 and Ashlee Snapp’s 276.
