MARION — Waterloo West charged back from a 14-point halftime deficit and edged Linn-Mar 51-50 Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

The Wahawks held the Lions to five points in the third quarter to begin their comeback, then scored 20 of their own in the fourth to finish it. Na’Tracia Ceaser, who finished with 28 points, provided the go-ahead points with two clutch free throws with less than a minute remaining.

Linn-Mar had a shot to win it, but it rimmed out.

Jada Draine knocked down four 3-pointers as part of her 16 points for the Wahawks (2-1).

CEDAR FALLS 83, CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON 62: Top-ranked Cedar Falls rode a 35-point third quarter to a Mississippi Valley Conference win at Cedar Rapids Washington Friday.

Emerson Green finished with a game-high 17 points for the Tigers (3-0 overall, 2-0 MVC) while Anaya Barney and Cynthia Wolf chipped in 16 each.

DUBUQUE SENIOR 53, WATERLOO EAST 52: Waterloo East went cold in the third quarter and lost a 53-52 heartbreaker to Dubuque Senior in a Mississippi Valley Conference matchup.

The Trojans (2-2 overall, 1-2 MVC) led 35-26 at halftime, but scored just four points in the third period as the Rams (3-1, 1-1) stormed back.

Amanee Clark led East with 24 points and Kerris Roberts added 15.

CLARKSVILLE 54, WATERLOO CHRISTIAN 14: Clarksville’s Emma Poppe scored 16 points and the Indians improved to 2-1 with an Iowa Star win over Waterloo Christian.

Boys’ basketball

WATERLOO EAST 89, BURLINGTON 67: Waterloo East turned up its defensive pressure in the second half to break open a close game and race past Burlington in a non-conference game.

East led by just six points at halftime, but forced 22 turnovers on the night.

Junior guard Tyrese Nickelson led five Trojans in double figures with 20 points and Treyshawn LaBeaux added 14.

The RoughRiders are 8-2-0-0 while the Warriors fell to 4-4-1-0.

Nick Samuelson and Kyle Cowell scored goals for Waterloo with assists from Kole Latusick and Mason Lamb.
