IOWA CITY — Top-ranked Iowa City West had a little too much firepower for fifth-ranked Cedar Falls Friday as the Trojans won a 64-50 Mississippi Valley Conference showdown.

The Tigers (9-5, 6-4) got off to a slow start offensively as Iowa City West (12-1, 9-1) pulled away in the second quarter for a 24-16 halftime lead that they widened through the third to 46-30.

Cedar Falls heated up in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get the Trojans stopped often enough to threaten at the end.

Individually, A.J. Green’s 20 points led Cedar Falls.

GMG 92, WATERLOO CHRISTIAN 44: Luke Zwack had another big night with 34 points, but GMG shut down the rest of the Regents for a 92-44 Iowa Star victory.

GMG (7-9, 6-7) scored 57 first-half points, then held Waterloo Christian (0-16, 0-13) to just three in the third period.
