IOWA CITY — Cedar Falls couldn’t make quite enough plays in the closing minutes Friday as the Tigers dropped a 63-57 Mississippi Valley Conference boys’ basketball game at Iowa City High.

The Tigers (2-1, 1-1) trailed 17-13 after the opening period, but surged ahead by halftime, 31-30. Iowa City High then went on a third-quarter run to build a 48-44 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

JANESVILLE 81, WATERLOO CHRISTIAN 12: Janesville’s 11th-ranked girls’ basketball team rode its defense and depth to a lopsided Iowa Star win over Waterloo Christian.

An 18-0 run at the end of the first quarter staked the Wildcats to a 29-1 lead, and Waterloo Christian never recovered.

Janesville (4-0, 4-0) got points from everyone on its roster.

COLUMBUS 42, WAPSIE VALLEY 38: Columbus’ first half was slightly better than Wapsie Valley’s second half as the Sailors pulled out a North Iowa Cedar League win.

Lily Christensen had 18 points, including five 3-point buckets, for Columbus. Olivia Fain finished with seven assists and six of the Sailors’ 19 steals that helped them overcome a 16-for-56 shooting night and a 5-for-17 performance from the free throw line.
