IOWA CITY — Second-ranked Cedar Falls survived a major test on the road Friday night as the Tigers fought off No. 9 Iowa City West 62-58 in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball battle.

It was a back-and-forth game most of the night with Iowa City West leading 31-30 at halftime and the score tied at 42-42 heading into the final quarter.

The Tigers (17-1, 9-1) secured their 14th straight win with stellar free-throw shooting from freshman Anaya Barney and sophomore Emerson Green. Barney made all four of her foul shots in the final period while Green hit a pair in the final minute.

Barney led Cedar Falls with 17 points while Green finished with 16. Kiana Barney (12) and Kamryn Finley (11) also finished in double figures for the Tigers.

Iowa City West (11-6, 8-2) was led by Iowa recruit Logan Cook with 17 points and Creighton commit Rachael Saunders with 14.

RICEVILLE 49, WATERLOO CHRISTIAN 35: Waterloo Christian went cold in the middle two quarters and Riceville took advantage to slip away with a 49-35 Iowa Star Conference girls’ win.

Riceville outscored the Regents 29-8 over the second and third quarters to take control.

Amber Smith led Waterloo Christian with 12 points and Emma Armbrecht added 10.
