DUNKERTON — The fifth-ranked Dunkerton boys’ basketball team responded to its first loss of the season Thursday with a 70-43 beatdown of Riceville Friday night.

The Raiders (13-1, 7-0) used a 26-point second quarter to break the game open. Brady Happel finished with 18 points, Dalton Burch had 14 and Zach Johnson added 12 for Dunkerton.

DIKE-NEW HARTFORD 66, UNION 56: Colton Harberts scored 25 points to lead Dike-New Hartford to a 66-56 North Iowa Cedar League win over Union Community.

The 6-foot-6 junior entered the game averaging 16-1 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds as the Wolverines improved to 9-2 in the conference and 11-4 overall.

Koby Alpers scored 13 and Troy Hanus added 12 for the Knights (1-11, 1-9).

JESUP 52, HUDSON 39: Jesup avenged one of its four losses with a win over Hudson.

The J-Hawks (9-4, 7-4) led by only four points at halftime, but went on an 11-2 run in the third quarter to open it up. Jesup scored 20 points from the foul line and got a team-high 14 points from Cade Nolan.

CJ Christopher had 14 for Hudson (6-7, 4-6).

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 69, DECORAH 57: Waverly-Shell Rock worked its way to a double-digit lead in the third quarter and held off Decorah in a matchup of Northeast Iowa Conference rivals.

The Go-Hawks (10-3, 7-1) got 18 points from Jack Seward, 14 from Trey Angel, 12 from Jacob Bahe and 11 from Mosai Newsom.

Girls’ basketball

CLARKSVILLE 53, DON BOSCO 29: The Clarksville girls upped their record to 15-3 overall and 8-3 in the Iowa Star Conference with a decisive win over Don Bosco.

The Indians never trailed and got 18 points from Kori Wedeking.

JESUP 47, HUDSON 30: Jesup bolted to a 22-6 lead and then turned back Hudson in North Iowa Cedar League girls’ action.

Emily Treptow led the J-Hawks (9-6, 7-4) with 12 points while Brittany Lingenfelter added 11 and Payton McHone grabbed 13 rebounds. Hudson (6-7, 5-5) got 10 points from Mikayla McKenna.

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 52, DECORAH 19: Waverly-Shell Rock’s defense was suffocating Friday as the Go-Hawks pinned a one-sided defeat on Decorah.

Britney Young led the W-SR offense with 13 points, Abby Thier added 11 and Olivia Phillips 10 as the Go-Hawks improved to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the Northeast Iowa Conference.

GRUNDY CENTER 47, BCLUW 27: Eighth-ranked Grundy Center ran its record to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the North Iowa Cedar League with a stifling defensive effort against BCLUW.

The Spartans gave up just nine first-half points as they took control. Hailey Wallis led the offense with 12 oints, and Reegan Zinkula added 11.
