Part of the 2016 All-Metro boys’ basketball team is out of the locker room forever.

Part of it will be back on the various high school courts when next season begins.

In other words, the teams are a mix of departing seniors and talented underclassmen who will be back for 2016-17.

The first team upperclassmen are Tra’Von Fagan of Cedar Falls, Amel Kuljuhovic of Waterloo West, Isaiah Wade of Waterloo East and Tim Doering of Waterloo Christian.

Joining those seniors on the first team is sophomore point guard A.J. Green of Cedar Falls.

Fagan, an all-metro performer last year, played a vital part in the Tigers’ drive to the state tournament. He was Cedar Falls’ leading scorer at 18.6 points per game while shooting 54.5 percent from the field. Fagan also hauled in a team-high 215 rebounds.

Kuljuhovic was one of the metro area’s most improved players, as the 6-9 senior gave West a consistent offensive option in the low post. He averaged a team-high 13.5 points per game for the Wahawks while pulling in 219 rebounds.

Wade, who transferred to East from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, was a key reason why the Trojans made a major step forward in 2015-16. The 6-7 senior tallied 15.2 points per game for East and had 189 total rebounds.

Doering led the Regents in every major category, including scoring (25.6 ppg) rebounds (191) assists (157), Steals (76) and blocked shots (32).

Green has been a fixture in the Tiger starting lineup for two seasons, and he’s got two more to go. The point guard scored 17.8 ppg and shot 43.9 percent from 3-point range, and he had 76 asssits.

On the all-metro second team, one can find plenty of underclassmen. Sophomores Trey LaBeaux of Cedar Falls and Ja’Cee Clark of East are there. Juniors Raheem Nickelson of East and Cedar Falls’ Isaiah Johnson also made the second team. Gabe Pepin of West is the lone senior on the second team.
