EPWORTH — Waterloo East opened postseason boys’ basketball play Monday with a 53-40 Class 4A substate victory at Western Dubuque.
The Trojans (10-12) advance to a Friday substate semifinal at metro rival Cedar Falls while Western Dubuque’s season ends with a 15-7 record.
In other area games Monday, Charles City defeated Iowa Falls-Alden 67-56, Webster City edged Decorah 50-49 and Independence knocked out Clear Creek-Amana 54-44.
Charles City (17-4) will host Webster City (14-8) in a Thursday 3A semifinal while Independence (15-8) moves on to face South Tama (14-8) Thursday in Tama.
A pair of 3A matchups scheduled for Waverly Monday were postponed to today. Clear Lake and Crestwood meet at 6 p.m., followed by Humboldt against Waverly-Shell Rock at 7:30 p.m.
That change in turn forced a relocation of a 2A matchup tonight between Aplington-Parkersburg and Dike-New Hartford. That game will now be played at Denver at 7 p.m.
