PARKERSBURG -- Fourth-ranked Aplington-Parkersburg kept its perfect record intact Tuesday, but the Falcons had to dig deep to turn back Wapsie Valley 74-64 in a battle for first place in the North Iowa Cedar League East.

A-P used a 10-0 run in the closing minutes of the first half to build a 39-27  lead at the break. The Falcons stretched it to 16 points in the third period before the Warriors stormed back within 68-64.

A-P iced the win with six clutch free throws from guard Alec Oberhauser, who racked up a triple-double of 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Paul Rundquist of Wapsie Valley (8-3, 6-2) led all scorers with 31 points.

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 53, OELWEIN 44: Waverly-Shell Rock built a nine-point halftime lead and kept Oelwein at bay for a hard-earned Northeast Iowa Conference win.

Jack Seward scored 17 points for the Go-Hawks, who improved to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in league games. Dom Robertson finished with 15 points for Oelwein (2-9, 0-6).

DECORAH 71, CRESTWOOD 51: Jonah Johnson broke loose for 24 points, including six 3-point buckets, as Decorah won a Northeast Iowa Conference matchup over Crestwood.

Girls' basketball

JANESVILLE 51, CLARKSVILLE 38: Seventh-ranked Janesville charged back from a 23-18 halftime deficit and blew past Clarksville in Iowa Star Conference action.

The Wildcats (10-1, 7-0) outscored the Indians (12-3, 5-3) 17-2 in the third quarter to turn the game around.

Briana Baker Bruce led Janesville with 12 points while Kori Wedeking's 16 topped Clarksville.

ROCKFORD 62, NASHUA-PLAINFIELD 30: Rockford held Nashua-Plainfield to 11 first-half points and cruised to a Top of Iowa Conference win.

The Warriors (3-10, 3-6) led 33-11 at halftime and 51-18 after three quarters behind a defense that produced 23 steals.

CRESTWOOD 64, DECORAH 23: Crestwood set the tone with its defense, surrendering just seven first-half points on the way to a Northeast Iowa Conference win.

The second-ranked Cadets (12-0, 6-0) got 22 points from Shannon Pisney and 18 from Sharon Goodman.

GRUNDY CENTER 73, GLADBROOK-REINBECK 24: Eleven players scored as 11th-ranked Grundy Center cruised past Gladbrook-Reinbeck in North Iowa Cedar League action.

Hailey Wallis led three players in double figures for the Spartans (10-1, 6-1) with 16 points.

APLINGTON-PARKERSBURG 62, WAPSIE VALLEY 25: Aplington-Parkersburg took charge early and raced past Wapsie Valley in North Iowa Cedar League play.

The Falcons (7-5, 6-3) got points from 13 players and hit 21 free throws. Jenna Bruns tallied 15 points to lead the way.
