Wartburg College quarterback Matt Sacia has been selected as a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team that recognizes student-athletes who achieve on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

From a group of 146 nominees, 22 will be named to the Good Works Team — 11 from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 from FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA.

Hockey

Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Hank Sorensen has announced his intention to play college hockey at Alabama-Huntsville beginning in the 2018-19 season.

Sorensen played in 41 games for the Black Hawks last season and finished with four goals and 10 assists. Sorensen will join former Black Hawk Brandon Salerno at Huntsville.

Baseball

The Atlanta Braves tryout camp scheduled for Mason City July 31 has been rescheduled for Aug. 8 due to a conflict.

The camp will be held at Roosevelt Field in Mason City beginning at 9 a.m. Players between the ages of 16 and 23 are encouraged to attend.

Boxing

Five Sullivan Brothers Event Center will host a Roughhouse Productions boxing card Saturday night.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with action beginning at 7 p.m. Local boxers on the card include Kevin Cruz, Greg Sykes, BJ Tomlinson and Travis Fulton. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $50 for ringside seats.

Basketball

The Mid-American Youth basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 3 through 12 will take place July 21-23 in the Cedar Valley.
