Northern Iowa announced the signing of two more of Iowa’s top prep wrestlers Friday in Waterloo East’s Tyrell Gordon and Atlantic’s John McConkey.
Gordon finished fourth at 182 pounds at last year’s state meet, finished seventh at the Preseason Nationals at 195 pounds and was a Fargo Nationals All-American with a fifth-place finish at 220 pounds.
McConkey went 53-4 last year and was runner-up at 285 pounds. He also finished second at the Iowa/USA Junior Freestyle State Championships and is ranked ninth in the nation by FloWrestling and 37th on IAWrestle’s preseason Fab50 list.
Waterloo West’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will scrimmage West Delaware Saturday in West’s Siddens Gymnasium as part of the Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge.
Proceeds benefit the Iowa Hall of Pride, and both teams will also participate in a community service project. Admission to the games, which begin with sophomore girls and freshmen boys at 3 p.m. and conclude with varsity girls at 6 p.m. and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m., is 45 for adults and $4 for students.
