ITHACA, N.Y. — Taylor Lujan picked up a big win, but there weren’t many victories for the University of Northern Iowa wrestling team Friday as the Panthers fell to No. 19 Cornell 30-10.
It was the dual opener for UNI, which also got wins from Max Thomsen and Paden Moore. Thomsen racked up a 10-1 major decision at 149 pounds and Moore won 8-2 at 157 pounds.
Lujan, ranked eighth, defeated sixth-ranked returning All-American Brandon Womack at 174 pounds, 5-3. Womack was eighth at 165 pounds at last season’s NCAA Championships.
UNI opens its home dual season today at 2 p.m. in the West Gym against North Dakota State.
CLINIC TODAY: The Panthers will host a clinic today for wrestlers in eighth grade or younger to benefit the family of recent cancer victim Evie Mae Mueller, who lost her battle with the disease on her fourth birthday. Registration for the clinic begins at 11 a.m. Cost is $25.
