WATERLOO — A return to its home court inside the McLeod Center did the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team good Sunday afternoon.

After a long and disappointing road trip where they lost four games in a row, the Panthers got back in the win column in dominating fashion with a 92-62 romp past Division II Wisconsin-Parkside.

“It was good to get back home and practice on our home court,” UNI coach Tanya Warren said. “It was not good scheduling on my part, putting us on the road that long.”

The Panthers (3-6) started fast and never let off the gas as they pressured the Rangers (4-9) for 40 minutes and caused 21 turnovers.

“Our number one emphasis today was just to get back to playing our basketball,” Warren said. “We wanted to play inside to out and we executed that pretty well.

“I thought we shot the ball pretty well today, and they went from a 2-3 to man to try and mix us up,” added Warren. “I thought we took some good shots and executed that well.”

UNI led 26-13 after one quarter and 35-13 early in the second. Freshman guard Nicole Kroeger hit four 3-pointers in the half and the Panthers owned a 52-32 advantage at the break.

“It felt good to finally get home and I think that made us more comfortable in the way we played,” Kroeger said. “Once I was able to hit my first two we just settled in and I think the rest of the team just started to feel it. I like to shoot the 3, but we will recognize the defense and go inside, too.”

Kroeger finished with 19 points, Megan Maahs had 15 and Ellie Howell pitched in a dozen.

UNI hosts Iowa at the McLeod Center next Sunday.
